It's traditional to arrange transportation for the bride and her attendants to the ceremony.
Typically the best man gives the groom a lift to the wedding; after the ceremony the groom joins the bride if there is transportation to the reception. Chauffer-driven transportation should be provided for the bride's parents, for the children in the wedding and for the wedding attendants. Recognize you don't want to squeeze too many people into the vehicle, plan your service based on how many people comfortably fit into each vehicle.
Start your search as early as possible. Local options-from traditional limousines, sedans and vans, to trolley cars, mini coaches, buses, horse-drawn carriages and SUV stretch
limousines abound, so planning is in order. Talk to several rental companies and don't just order a vehicle or carriage over the phone—see it before you book it.
Book your transportation six months in advance—especially if you're getting married during prom season. Don't forget to confirm the air conditioning.
Be sure that all insurance and state licenses are current and ask about the training the drivers receive. Be sure to sign with a company that places a premium on optimal service, such as chauffeurs with etiquette training. Can you interview your driver? Do drivers have uniforms? If not, ask whether you can specify the type of attire you'd like him or her to be wearing on your wedding day.
If your reception site is close to your ceremony site, opt for a less flashy vehicle since you won't be in it for long.
Forgoing an antique Rolls Royce for a classy town car, for example, could save you a bundle. If you plan on taking the car out for a whirl afterward, check out all the bells and whistles.
When reserving transportation, be sure to get a written contract that specifies the number of people who will need transportation, the specific vehicles for each purpose, vehicle rates, liability information, deposits and additional fees such as taxes and gratuities.
Your transportation provider is part of your wedding team. In an effort to make your day go off without a hitch, follow up with a confirmation call at least a week before the wedding to be certain there are no unanswered questions of who, what, when and where.
